Many residents of Pennsylvania face difficulties in managing their monthly energy expenses. In response to this pressing issue, Love Energy has collaborated with the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a federally funded initiative designed to assist eligible families with their home heating oil costs.
What Is LIHEAP?
LIHEAP supports low-income families with their home heating concerns. The dates for support changes each year. Your payments are issued directly to Love Energy Fuel and appear as a credit on your bill. The amount available varies according to your income, the number of people in your family, and the fuel your home uses. The Department of Human Services may extend or shorten the program depending upon the availability of federal funds.
The LIHEAP program assists hundreds of Love Energy heating oil customers each year. We’re proud to partner with this service. No customer should have to worry about keeping their family safe and warm during the winter season.
Do you qualify for LIHEAP?
LIHEAP is a needs-based assistance program available to anyone who rents or owns a home. You may already qualify for LIHEAP in Pennsylvania if you currently receive other forms of social assistance.
You can apply for LIHEAP whether you are working or not. To qualify, your annual income must fall below a given level, depending on the number of people in your household. You also need proof of your oil or propane account, as well as the information for everyone in your home.
Crisis Grants:
In addition to the LIHEAP program, households experiencing a heating crisis may be eligible for additional benefits through the LIHEAP crisis program.
The Crisis program will reopen in the Fall of 2025
Emergency situations include:
- Broken heating equipment or leaking lines that must be fixed or replaced
- Lack of fuel
- The primary heating source or second heating source (a source that is used to operate the primary heating source or used if the primary heating source is not working) has been completely shut off.
- The danger of being without fuel (less than a 15-day supply) or of having utility service terminated (received a notice that service will be shut off within the next 60 days)
Pennsylvania Income Eligibility:
To qualify for Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), please check the Pennsylvania 2025-2026 Proposed LIHEAP Plan that The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) recently published.
- Anticipated Opening Date: The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) proposes to open the case and crisis components of LIHEAP on November 3, 2025.
- Anticipated Closing Date: The proposed closing date for both components is April 3, 2026.
- Flexibility: The program year may be extended or shortened based on the availability of funds.
How to Apply
There are three different ways you can apply for LIHEAP, online, on paper, or in person.
A Love Energy Fuel representative can advise you on the documentation you’ll need to get your application approved. This can include:
- Names, ages and Social Security numbers of all household members
- Proof of income for all household members
- Proof of address
- A copy of your most recent heating bill or a confirmation of account letter
You can apply online by using COMPASS. COMPASS is where you can apply for LIHEAP and many other services that can help you make ends meet.
